Captovation Announces ecNet

Internet-based capture solution is first program developed since company name change

Minneapolis, MN, April 3, 2000 -- Captovation, Inc. (formerly Complex Imaging Systems, Inc.), which develops the highest quality document and data capture solutions for document management systems, announced today a new Internet-based component for their current document and data capture solution eCapture 4.  The new component now makes eCapture 4 not only a production-level scanning and indexing solution but also a remote, Internet-ready solution as well.

ecNet is a true, browser-based distributed capture solution for eCapture.  It allows organizations to easily deploy distributed document scanning and indexing at remote locations using the Internet or their corporate intranet.  The new program is comprised of two components: ecNet Client and ecNet Server.  The ecNet Client is automatically downloaded and installed as soon as a user connects to the ecNet Server, and runs entirely within a web browser.  ecNet Client uses the industry standard TWAIN interface to capture documents from desktop scanners or other TWAIN compliant input devices.

ecNet allows organizations to control how they want to implement their distributed document capture process.  For example, organizations can choose to scan documents at remote offices and then index the document images at their corporate headquarters.  Another way to implement ecNet, is for organizations to scan and index documents from a remote location.  In this example, indexed documents are sent to the ecNet Server and then automatically committed into the designated document management or workflow system.

A friendly user interface accessed through a web browser is used to manage the central ecNet Server.  The administrator defines scanning profiles that determine the method of document capture.  Scanning profiles ensure that remote sites adhere to standards set forth by the organization.

ecNet is one of the components that make up the eCapture suite of document and data   capture tools.  There are currently two versions of eCapture.  The first version is   eCapture 3.1 for Optika’s (Nasdaq:OPTK) Acorde solutions.  The latest version, eCapture 4, can be integrated into any document management or workflow system.

ecNet is the first program developed by Captovation since the company changed its name on March 1, 2000.  The company was previously known as Complex Imaging Systems.  Since the company’s inception in 1994, Captovation has grown to serve over 30 resellers and 350 customers.  Their customers are in markets that range from communications to transportation.  Currently, Captovation has over 10 software-based solutions for document management systems.

“Our focus has always been to provide our customers with the most innovative, user-friendly, and easily integrated document and data capture solutions.  We wanted a company name that would help imply this better,” said Ken Peterka, president and CEO of Captovation, Inc.
