Captovation Announces ecImport Server

New program can import images from a variety of sources directly into eCapture

Minneapolis, MN, January 15, 2001 -- Captovation, which develops production-level and Internet-based capture solutions, announced today a new software program that can import images from applications such as: incoming faxes, images from microfiche conversions, images from multi-function copiers, and images scanned using third-party software.  This new program, called ecImport Server, will give companies the ability to index document images that were not initially scanned using eCapture.

ecImport Server works by allowing administrators to define batch jobs for specific import applications.  Each batch job can then be independently scheduled using a built-in scheduler.  As images are imported, they are turned into eCapture batches where they can be indexed using ecIndex™ or ecAutoFile Server™.  After indexing, the document images are then filed into a designated document management or workflow system.

ecImport Server can import images from multiple network folders and subfolders, or by  using an ASCII list file.  ecImport Server also features support for multiple page TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files, and will validate image integrity during the import process.  The program will also send out an email notification in case of critical errors.

ecImport Server is VBA-compatible (Visual Basic for Applications), which means it can be further programmed to meet the exact needs of the customer. VBA-compatible macros can be created to respond to importing events.  ecImport Server will allow system integrators to develop their own Import Provider (an ActiveX component plug-in) for ecImport Server.

ecImport Server is the sixth component that makes up the eCapture tool suite developed by Captovation.  The other tools include: ecScan (production-level scanning), ecIndex (production-level indexing), ecNet (distributed, web-based capture), ecAutoFile Server (bar code recognition server), and ecCommit Server (schedule batch commits).

eCapture is a modular capture system and can be implemented in a variety of ways.  Companies can use eCapture in high-volume capture environments, remote capture environments, or a combination of the two.  For example, a company with many remote offices, such as an insurance company, can use ecNet to scan claim documents at their remote offices, and then use ecIndex to index and begin processing the claim documents at their corporate headquarters.  This eliminates the costs associated with shipping paper and helps to improve overall customer service.

Captovation will demo the entire eCapture tool suite at the Optika International Summit in Colorado Springs from January 30 – February 2.  Their booth numbers are 102 and 103.
