Captovation
Announces ecCheckScan Minneapolis,
MN, December 20, 2002 – Captovation, a developer of production-level and
Internet-based document capture software, announced today the newest addition to
their eCapture product suite. ecCheckScan
will provide users with an interface to capture the image and MICR (magnetic ink
character recognition) data off of monetary checks so that they can be easily
archived into virtually any electronic content management system. Banks,
credit unions, financial institutions, and essentially any organization can use
ecCheckScan to image enable their checks. Combining
ecCheckScan with a check scanner and a content management system provides a more
efficient and financially feasible method for organizations to retain check
images, when compared to traditional microfilm systems.
ecCheckScan
is different from competitive check scanning software programs because it can be
immediately integrated with virtually any electronic content management system.
Since ecCheckScan was built on eCapture’s architecture, it
automatically inherits all the existing content management systems integrations.
eCapture integrations (provided free from Captovation) currently exist
for such systems as Optika Acorde, DocuWare, Microsoft SharePoint, IBM Content
Manager and others. Many
competitive check scanning solutions would require expensive custom programming
to perform this level of integration. Initially,
ecCheckScan will support TellerScan and Buic check scanners provided by Digital
Check Corporation (www.digitalcheck.com).
These scanners range in speeds from the manually fed TS200, to the 90
checks per minute TS400E. Check
scanners have been designed and optimized for scanning checks (front and back),
and at a price of around $5,000 are significantly less expensive than other
high-speed document scanners. ecCheckScan
does not require the purchase of a third-party scanner driver, which reduces
overall system costs. Users simply
connect their check scanner, install and configure ecCheckScan, and begin
scanning. To
capture the MICR data off the check, ecCheckScan utilizes the check scanner’s
built-in MICR reader. MICR data
typically includes a Routing Number, an Account Number, a Check Number and a
Check Amount. During the scanning
process, this data is automatically parsed into fields within eCapture.
If the MICR read fails, users can edit the data within ecCheckScan.
The The
program can be used independently, but it can also be implemented to complement
other eCapture modules. For
example, ecCheckScan can be implemented with ecIndex, eCapture’s
production-level indexing module, to provide enhanced indexing capabilities.
“ecCheckScan
is an excellent addition to our eCapture product suite that allows us to further
diversify our total product offering”, said Ken Peterka, Captovation’s
President and CEO. “We are very excited to provide our resellers and customers
with a robust and affordable check scanning solution.” ecCheckScan
will be sold through Captovation’s eCapture Certified Resellers at a suggested
retail price of $2,495 with general availability expected for Q1 of 2003.
Captovation is also working on a web-enabled version of ecCheckScan for
distributed check scanning environments. About
