Announces Integration Between eCapture and
IBM’s Content Manager Version 8
Minneapolis, MN, June 6,
2003 -- Captovation, a leading provider of production-level and
browser-based document capture software, announced today direct integration
support between their flagship software product eCapture™, and IBM®
DB2 Content Manager.
DB2 Content Manager is an
enterprise-wide solution for storage, management, and distribution of all types
of digital content, including text, XML and HTML files, document images,
electronic office documents, audio, and video. It also is designed to manage and
administer any file type, providing logically organized, central and/or
distributed repositories of unstructured information commonly located in file
cabinets, microfilm archives and multiple, unrelated file servers across an
enterprise.
The integration between
eCapture and DB2 Content Manager is made possible by an eCapture Data Provider (EDP),
which Captovation developed and provides for free to DB2 Content Manager
customers that have purchased eCapture. This
EDP can be used by all the eCapture components to perform a batch (group of
document images) commit into Content Manger.
When a commit is performed, the EDP moves the document images and their
associated index data from eCapture and archives them into DB2 Content Manager.
The eCapture/DB2 Content
Manager integration also includes a Template Manager, which allows an
administrator to define file cabinet and field mappings between eCapture and
Content Manager. An administrator
uses the Template Manager to connect to a DB2 Content Manager server and
retrieve information such as Item Types, Attributes, and Process Names.
eCapture fields are then mapped to DB2 Content Manager attributes on a
per-field basis. The administrator
can also configure documents to be stored within a folder. For example, if DB2
Content Manager users want to group all insurance claim documents, their
administrator could create a folder based on the Claim Number and store the
claim document within the claim folder. These
folders can be dynamically created during the commit process by using the
associated document index values.
DB2 Content Manager comes
standard with a scanning interface. However,
DB2 Content Manager users who are looking for increased document capture
functionality can purchase eCapture and take advantage of the program’s
additional features, which include browser-based scanning and indexing, monetary
check capture (includes check image and MICR - magnetic ink character
recognition - data), automated bar code recognition, image import from fax
directories and email, and the ability to schedule the document commit process
from eCapture to Content Manager. Additionally,
eCapture supports native-ISIS®
scanning from Pixel Translations, VRS®
(VirtualReScan) technology from Kofax, and TWAIN-compliant input devices.
“DB2 Content Manager is
one of the leading content management systems on the market, and now Content
Manager customers can implement an industry-leading capture system for their
mission critical capture needs,” said Ken Peterka, President and CEO at
Captovation, Inc. “The features
and functionality that eCapture offers will help DB2 Content Manager customers
streamline current document capture processes, which in turn will help those
companies improve their overall business processes.”
Captovation has also
integrated eCapture with IBM’s DB2 Content Manager Version 7.1, which is still
being used by some companies. In
fact, The Ministry of Provincial Revenue in Victoria, British Columbia recently
purchased eCapture for their DB2 Content Manager 7.1 system.
They are using eCapture for the purposes of scanning and indexing tax
levies from residents of the province.
The eCapture suite of
document capture modules will be on display at IBM’s upcoming Content
Management/Websphere Portal Expo that is being held at the Wyndham Palace Resort
& Spa in Orlando, Florida from June 8th through June 10th.
Their booth number is 305.
