Captovation Releases Captovation® Capture 5.0
Release marks new product name and major enhancements to multiple Captovation Capture components

Minneapolis, MN, May 9, 2005 -- Captovation, a leading provider of document, check, and browser-based capture software, released today the latest version of their flagship product, Captovation Capture. Product and user-interface enhancements have been added to all seven Captovation Capture components giving users the ability to further streamline their document capture and overall day-to-day business processes.

Formerly known as eCapture, Captovation Capture is a modular system that can capture both paper and electronic documents for use within an electronic document management (EDMS) or similar system. Consisting of seven modules, the product offers functionality for production-level scanning and indexing, browser-based capture, check capture, as well as automated recognition, universal document importing, and document commit (archive) scheduling.

In Captovation Capture 5.0, specific attention was given to the enhancements for Captovation Import Server, Web Capture, and Recognition Server. Features for Import Server were added to satisfy the needs of today’s companies who have become increasingly concerned with managing their content, government compliance, and document retention periods. Companies today realize that future versions of the program that created an electronic document may not support older file formats, or that the program itself may no longer exist. By converting electronic documents and emails into image format, companies ensure that their document images cannot be tampered with (altered), the image can be viewed well into the future, and the image will be properly represented.

Import Server can import and convert images and other electronic documents (PDF, MS-Word, MS-Excel, HTML, etc.) into Captovation Capture. The imported images can be converted into either tagged image file format (TIFF) or portable document format (PDF), which provide adequate long-term storage options for companies. Additionally, Import Server includes an email provider to allow companies to incorporate their email system into their overall document management and business workflow strategy. For example, companies can choose to configure Import Server so that it monitors the inbox where company invoices are sent. Import Server can recognize any incoming email that has an attachment. It will then import that attachment – in this case an invoice – into Captovation Capture. In addition, email fields such as: To and From can be directly mapped to document index fields. After the documents have been indexed, they are committed (archived) into the company’s electronic document management system. Once, committed, the invoice can be routed through the company’s appropriate workflow process for invoice approval.  Import Server offers importing support for black and white, grayscale and color images, and works with any POP3 (post office protocol) or IMAP (internet message access protocol) compliant email server.

To allow for flexible implementation, Captovation Capture 5.0 includes new document output formats. Images can be output to image-only PDF’s as well as PDF’s with searchable text. Additionally, Captovation Capture supports image output to a multiple-page TIFF. Unlike competitive capture solutions, there are no image output volume restrictions with Captovation Capture. Lastly, the product’s unique architecture allows for this new output support to be implemented so that document commits can occur into multiple systems simultaneously.

Users of Captovation’s award-winning, web-based capture system – Captovation Web Capture - can now query corporate databases over the Internet to retrieve index information. For example, Web Capture users can query a corporate database by customer name to retrieve and auto-populate the customer account number field. This process all takes place over the Internet and helps reduce data entry keystrokes and errors.

Additionally, the administrator program for Captovation Web Capture now runs as a JAVA applet. This gives Web Capture administrators an intuitive interface to create batch profiles for the Web Capture client sites.

Captovation Recognition Server helps companies automate the indexing process by reading and extracting bar code data from documents and populating that data into index fields. With Captovation Capture 5.0, additional bar code support has been added. This new bar code support includes the following: UCC\EAN-128, Airline(IATA) 2/5, Code 32, Datalogic 2/5, Industrial 2/5, Matrix 2/5, Postnet / Planet, and Datamatrix (two-dimensional).

Additional features added to Captovation Capture include the ability for pick-lists to link to a corporate database. Pick-lists are pre-defined values that appear in a drop-down list within an index field. With this new feature, these pick-list values can all be retrieved from the corporate database. An example of this would be creating a customer name pick-list by retrieving all customer names from an accounting database. Pick-list fields can be associated with each other in a parent/child relationship; for example, the makes and models of cars. These pick-lists can support multi-level parent/child relationships as well. Finally, image thumbnail support is now available for both Captovation Scan and Index. Thumbnails are used to ensure quality assurance and for reordering pages within batch.

"At Captovation, we have always been proactive when it comes to improving our flagship Captovation Capture product," said Ken Peterka, Captovation’s President and CEO. "In today’s fast-paced business world, companies are looking to get as much out of their software as possible. It is important to us that eCapture has all the features and functionality they need to improve their overall business processes."
