Captovation Announces Support for Network TWAIN Drivers
Integration positions Captovation Web Capture as a scan to desktop application
for multi-function printers

Minneapolis, MN, May 23, 2006 – Captovation, a developer of document and check capture software, announced today support for scanning devices containing network TWAIN drivers.  To confirm this support, Captovation tested its browser-based capture component, Captovation Web Capture, with the Ricoh Aficio 1232C multi-function printer (MFP) and found them to be compatible.

With the proliferation of MFPs that include scanning capabilities -- International Data Corporation reports that approximately 600,000 copiers with scanning abilities were sold in 2003.  This number is expected to more than double at 1.2 million by 2008 -- businesses are looking for one “shared” device that can print, fax, and scan documents.  However, these devices typically scan to an email address or network folder, which requires users to download the images from those locations.  By implementing Web Capture, however, MFP users can utilize a browser-based capture system for scanning and indexing their documents directly.

After downloading and installing the appropriate MFP TWAIN driver, Web Capture will recognize the MFP as a scanning device.  Web Capture users can then choose to initiate the scanning process through their Web Capture user interface, or by selecting the ‘start from scanner’ option within the scanner dialogue window.  If this method were chosen, the user would then walk to the MFP and press the Scan button.

After the documents are scanned, the images can be reviewed and/or indexed within Web Capture.  When compared to performing these actions through a small touch screen on the MFP, this presents a simpler and more efficient method for users to review and index document images while sitting at their desks.  Furthermore, reviewing/indexing images within Web Capture also means that users are not tying up the MFP for a long period of time.

“There is no denying that MFPs are being used more and more as document scanners,” said Ken Peterka, President and CEO of Captovation.  “However, we feel that without document capture software integrations, businesses using these devices are not realizing as many business benefits as they could.  Utilizing capture software, such as Web Capture, with these devices will provide businesses with an easy and streamlined method to capture, index, and archive their business documents.”
