Minneapolis,
MN, March 19, 2004 --
Captovation, which develops production-level document, check and Internet-based
capture solutions for electronic document/content management systems, announced
today that their ecNet product received
an AIIM E-Doc magazine “Best of Show” award at the 2004 AIIM Conference and
Exhibition held at the Javits Convention Center last week in New York City. The
Best of Show Award recognizes the Enterprise Content Management hardware and
software technologies on exhibit at the AIIM 2004 Conference and Exhibition that
demonstrate exceptional capabilities and quality, and show evidence of
significant ROI (Return on Investment) potential. A panel of 19 industry experts
evaluated products from over 225 companies in such categories as Business
Process Management/Workflow; Capture: Forms Processing; Records Management;
Hardware: Desktop Scanner and Hardware: Storage. ecNet is a true, Internet-distributed document capture system consisting of two components: ecNet Client and ecNet Server. The ecNet Client is automatically downloaded and installed as soon as a user connects to the ecNet Server, and runs entirely within Microsoft’s Internet Explorer – no manual software installation is required to use the program. ecNet Client uses the industry standard TWAIN interface to capture documents from desktop scanners or other TWAIN compliant input devices. "Many
organizations, small and large, have users spread across geographic areas. As an
easy to use tool, ecNet for eCapture will allow all organizations to speed up
many vital and critical business processes,” said Paul Schulte, Quality
Systems Coordinator at Medtronic, Inc. and “Best of Show” award judge for
the Capture: Document Imaging category. “ecNet
for eCapture may lead the new revolution of distributed desktop capture." ecNet
supports three remote capture methods: scan only, scan and index documents, and
scan and index batches (groups of documents).
The capture methods are determined by an administrator who centrally
configures ecNet scanning profiles using Internet Explorer. If indexing of documents is allowed, scanning profiles
determine which document fields are available for indexing. If document images are not indexed remotely with ecNet, they
can be indexed centrally ecNet
can also be configured to allow for remote database queries.
This allows remote users to query their company’s corporate database
via the Internet to retrieve additional index data. This feature can reduce
manual indexing requirements and validate data entry. After
scanning and indexing is complete, the images and associated index data is sent
to the ecNet Server via the Internet/Intranet using Hyper Text Transfer Protocol
(HTTP), which is firewall friendly for most organizations.
Once received, the ecNet Server temporarily stores the images and index
data until they are electronically committed (archived) into the
organization’s document/content management system.
Currently, Captovation provides direct integrations for systems such as
Optika Acorde, Hyland OnBase, TOWER Software’s TRIM Context, IBM Content
Manager, DocuWare, Microsoft’s SharePoint Portal Server and others. “We
are honored to be recognized by AIIM and E-Doc magazine as a Best of Show
winner,” said Ken Peterka, President and CEO of Captovation.
“The award is a testament to how ecNet makes it easy and cost-effective
for organizations to deploy distributed document capture.”
